The Philips 2200 and 3200 LatteGo are two of the best-selling super-automatic espresso machines on both sides of the Atlantic, and they're similar enough that it's easy to pay for features you won't use. Inside, they share what matters: a ceramic grinder with 12 settings, a removable brew group you rinse under the tap, AquaClean filter support and, on the LatteGo versions, the tube-free milk system that's the quickest to clean on the market. This Philips 2200 vs 3200 comparison explains what actually changes, which model codes to look for in the US and the UK, and when the 3300 or 5400 is worth it.
If you drink espresso, coffee and the odd cappuccino, a 2200 is enough. Pay for the 3200 LatteGo if you want more one-touch drinks (americano, latte macchiato) or several people with different tastes use the machine. If grinder noise in the morning bothers you, look at the 3300.

US vs UK: model codes and availability
Philips uses different suffixes in each market, and the 120 V US machines are not the same units as the 230 V UK ones. What we found on Amazon at the time of writing:
- US (Amazon.com): the 2200 is mainly listed in its classic-frother version (EP2220); the 2200 LatteGo (EP2230) mostly shows up only as replacement parts. The 3200 LatteGo is the EP3241. The 3300 LatteGo is also listed. We couldn't find the 5400 sold by Amazon.com.
- UK (Amazon.co.uk): the 2200 is listed in its classic-frother version, the newer 2300 LatteGo (four drinks) effectively replaces the 2200 LatteGo, and the 3200 LatteGo, 3300 LatteGo and 5400 LatteGo are all available. The 3200 listing we found is the connected Wi-Fi version with app control.
So in practice, the US decision is often "2200 with a steam wand vs 3200 with LatteGo," and the UK decision "2300 LatteGo vs 3200 LatteGo."
What really changes between the 2200 and 3200
- Number of drinks. The 2200 makes espresso and coffee (plus cappuccino on the LatteGo version). The 3200 LatteGo goes to five, adding options like americano and latte macchiato. If your household only drinks espresso and cappuccino, the extra buttons add nothing.
- Milk. The classic 2200 has a steam frother you control by hand, which is fine for one milky drink a day and gives you control over texture. LatteGo makes the drink for you and rinses clean in seconds; it's the main reason people pay more.
- Noise. Neither is quiet when grinding. Philips markets the 3300's SilentBrew as its quietest brewing technology, which matters in open-plan homes or early mornings.
- What doesn't change. Same type of ceramic grinder, same brew group, same AquaClean filter, which Philips says lets you go up to 5,000 cups without descaling if you change it when prompted. With the same beans and grind, espresso quality is very similar.

Daily maintenance
Both series need the same care: empty the grounds container and drip tray every few days, rinse LatteGo after milk drinks (two parts, quick rinse or dishwasher), take out and rinse the brew group weekly, and change the AquaClean filter when the machine asks. Without the filter, descale according to your water hardness: see our descaling guide.

What is the difference between the Philips 2200 and 3200?
Mainly the number of one-touch drinks and the milk system. The 3200 LatteGo makes five drinks with the tube-free LatteGo; the 2200 makes two with a classic steam frother, or three in its LatteGo version. They share the 12-setting ceramic grinder, brew group and AquaClean filter.
Does the Philips 3200 make better coffee than the 2200?
Not noticeably. With the same beans and grind, espresso from both is very similar. You pay for convenience and drink variety, not a better shot.
What are the US model numbers?
In the US the 2200 with a classic frother is the EP2220, the 2200 LatteGo is the EP2230 and the 3200 LatteGo is the EP3241. UK models use different suffixes, such as the EP3246 for the 3200 LatteGo.
Is LatteGo easy to clean?
Yes, it is the main selling point: two parts with no tubes that you rinse under the tap in seconds or put in the dishwasher.
Do I need to descale if I use the AquaClean filter?
Philips says that with AquaClean changed when prompted, you can go up to 5,000 cups without descaling. Without the filter, descale whenever the machine asks.
